OOLU CELEBRATES IWD 2023

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 8 MARCH 2023

#EMBRACEEQUITY

Society should learn to encourage more women into STEM because we are intelligent, and capable and are coming to the rescue, all over the world in various fields.

Growing up, I was a daddy’s girl and I wanted to be just like him. He was an Engineer and this inspired me to study Petroleum Engineering; of course with so much encouraging words from him.

Upon getting admission to the university, I realized that there was more male in all engineering department than female. It dawned on me that it wasn’t what my father painted it to be, as my experience revealed it to be a male-dominated field.

Still, I didn’t want to believe it because I felt it was just about people’s opinions and a wrong notion that has been put out to the society. I had to prepare my mind for excellence and I also didn’t want this wrong impression to make the male folks intimidate me. It would have been the beginning of fear, and failure which will also mean throwing my dreams away because of what society has said.

Back then, in my class, we were 5 girls out of 32 students. We decided to team up, get mentors in the industry for encouragement, learn together, and fight our ways to graduate with flying colors which we all did. Interestingly, the second-best graduating student in Engineering happened to be a female. Fast-forward, we are also all doing very well in our various career path.

Unfortunately, wrong perception or assumption in society has made a lot of young ladies out there kill their dreams of either going for engineering courses or choosing a career path in the engineering field. Some people believe a woman shouldn’t be there because a woman is supposed to sit at home to take care of the home or they believe that men should hold leadership positions, and responsibilities at work place hence placing them at a higher advantage. The question is; what makes them think a woman can’t deliver better? What makes them think a woman can’t survive a high position in the engineering field? What makes them think we are not capable?

Society should learn to encourage more women into STEM because we are intelligent, and capable and are coming to rescue all over the world in these various fields.

My survival tips for women; please speak up when you feel you’re not treated equally, take your best stab at whatever project, attend seminars that encourage women in STEM, get mentorship and most importantly do not throw away your ambition because you think it’s a man’s space or patriarchal society.

On this World Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible women who are lighting up the solar industry with their talent, passion, and dedication. They are the shining stars who power our company with their hard work and expertise, and we are honoured to introduce them to you today. These women are not only breaking barriers but also inspiring us all to reach for the stars.

Let us continue to celebrate the achievements of women past, present, and future, and work towards a more equitable and inclusive world for all.

 Happy International Women’s Day!

An inspiring article to boost the feminine gender morale and acknowledge that nothing is too difficult for them to achieve. Am really inspired and definitely going to save this for my future daughter. Happy IWD to all beautiful women, ladies and most importantly ‘The OOLU slay Queens’. Cheers….
